Azerbaijan’s Cultural Landscape of Khinalig People and “Köç Yolu” Transhumance Route has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The extended 45th session of the World Heritage Committee held in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia decided to approve the bid made by Azerbaijan’s State Tourism Agency.

Addressing the session, Chairman of Azerbaijan’s State Tourism Agency Fuad Naghiyev expressed his appreciation to everyone who supported the bid, describing the route as one of the unique examples of historical and economic model of not only Azerbaijan’s, but the world’s heritage.

He also expressed gratitude to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva for their care and attention to the preservation of the country’s tangible and intangible heritage.

Thus, the Cultural Landscape of Khinalig People and “Köç Yolu” Transhumance Route became the fourth cultural site of Azerbaijan included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Meanwhile, Azerbaijan’s Hirkan Forest also became the country’s first natural site to be inscribed on the List.
