On February 7, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan a meeting was held with the representatives of National Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan for UNESCO responsible for UNESCO issues in their  respective bodies

On February 7, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan a meeting was held with the representatives of National Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan for UNESCO responsible for UNESCO issues in their respective bodies. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss at the working level the current issues of the National Commission and future plans, as well as to strengthen the coordination between the relevant government bodies.

Elnur Sultanov, Ambassador-at- Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Secretary- General of the National Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan for UNESCO spoke about the close relations existing between Azerbaijan and UNESCO and noted exceptional contribution by the First Vice President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva to the development of these relations. The Secretary General emphasized that important projects have been implemented by Heydar Aliyev Foundation led by Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva in introducing the Azerbaijani culture in the international arena and promoting UNESCO ideas. Noting that in 2017 Azerbaijan celebrated the 25th anniversary of its membership to UNESCO, Elnur Sultanov underlined the great potential for cooperation between Azerbaijan and UNESCO and informed the participants of the current issues on the agenda.

Further, participants exchanged views on the current state and future prospects of cooperation between Azerbaijan and UNESCO in the field of culture, science, education, information, multiculturalism, gender equality and other areas, proposed number of new ideas and stressed the importance of strengthening inter-agency coordination.
