The appeal states that UNESCO is proud to celebrate the 7th International Jazz Day on April 30th of this year. It is noteworthy that the celebration of this day is not only an expression of respect for jazz art and heritage, but also recognition of the power of music to bring people together. Jazz takes its start from resistance to enslavement and struggle for freedom. This music penetrated into countless cultures in various styles and has become a form of expression.

This year, the International Jazz Day will be celebrated in more than 190 countries around the world. This year's International Jazz Day will be hosted by St. Petersburg. The city will host jazz-related seminars, master classes, film screenings and the “All-Star Global Concert” program, which will bring together famous jazz musicians around the world. The event will be organized jointly by UNESCO, Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz and Igor Butman Foundation.
