Organizing Committee holds first meeting in preparation for 43rd session of UNESCO World Heritage Committee to be held in Baku

The Organizing Committee of the 43rd Session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee to be held in Baku in 2019 has convened its first meeting.

Addressing the event, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Minister of Culture Abulfas Garayev highlighted the future tasks. He noted that Azerbaijan's rapid development in recent years has been praised by the world community. The minister emphasized President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva’s outstanding contribution to the development and strengthening of Azerbaijan-UNESCO relations.

He said that the 43rd session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee will be held in Baku from June 30 to July 10, 2019. Minister Garayev mentioned that the adoption of such an important decision for Azerbaijan testifies to the country's high level partnership with UNESCO.

Garayev underlined that Azerbaijan successfully hosted the 8th Session of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, adding the country also holds the World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue every two years in partnership with UNESCO.

The meeting then featured discussion of the works to be carried out by the Organizing Committee.
