The first meeting of the Ad Hoc Working Group of the World Heritage Committee was held at UNESCO headquarters in Paris.

The meeting chaired by Azerbaijan was opened by Anar Karimov, head of the Permanent Delegation of Azerbaijan to UNESCO. He thanked the committee members for electing our country as a chair of the World Heritage Committee. He noted with confidence that Azerbaijan will successfully host the next session of the World Heritage Committee in 2019. Ambassador spoke about the work done in the field of heritage safeguarding in our country.

Mechtild Rössler, Director of the World Heritage Center informed the committee members about the activities of the Ad Hoc Working Group.

It was noted that this Ad Hoc Working Group was set up to prepare for the 43rd session of the World Heritage Committee in Baku next year. Ad Hoc Working Group will continue its work until the committee meeting.

It should be noted that the decision to establish Ad Hoc Working Group was made during the last session of the World Heritage Committee in Bahrain. The mandate of the group includes issues related to the effective implementation of the UNESCO 1972 Convention and the reform of nomination processes.
