Edouard Matoko: Azerbaijan is a reliable partner of UNESCO
 

Anar Karimov, Ambassador and the head of the Permanent Delegation of Azerbaijan to UNESCO, met with Edouard Matoko, the Assistant Director-General for Priority Africa and External Relations.

A. Karimov congratulated E.Matoko for his new appointment and noted that E.Matoko’s long experience in UNESCO would play a huge role in reaching further goals of the organization.

During the meeting, Ambassador informed the counterpart regarding Azerbaijan-UNESCO relations. It was noted that despite the fact that our country is a young member of the organization, it has become one of the active members. It has closely participated in achieving goals and realization of numerous projects. The continuation of these tendencies, the contributions of our country on the intercultural dialogues, safeguarding of cultural heritage, and sustainable development of the African continent has been stressed.

A. Karimov stressed the great services of Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva, First Vice-President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador on the development of Azerbaijan-UNESCO relations.

It was mentioned that on May of the current year, together with UNESCO and other international and regional organizations the 5th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue and on June-July, the next session of the World Heritage Committee would be held in Baku, and the UNESCO leadership was asked to attend these events.

Edouard Matoko emphasized his satisfaction on the high level of Azerbaijan-UNESCO relations. He noted the importance of the Azerbaijani government's contribution to UNESCO's goals and objectives, as well as its close involvement in African-related projects. Noting that Azerbaijan is a reliable partner of UNESCO, E.Matoko underlined that he believes the relations will deepen further.
