3rd Interregional Meeting of National Commissions for UNESCO

 

From 13 to 15 June 2016, the 3rd Interregional Meeting of National Commissions for UNESCO, co-organized by the UNESCO Secretariat and the Chinese National Commission for UNESCO, took place in Shanghai, People’s Republic of China. 150 representatives coming from 119 National Commissions participated at the event.

UNESCO delegation headed by Mr Erik Falt, Assistant Director-General for External Relations and Public Information, took part in the event.

The meeting focused on strengthening networking between National Commissions from all regions, promoting best practices of National Commissions and  enhancing Organization’s work and optimizing their contribution to UNESCO’s programmes. 

The discussions were held around key topics such as the role of the National Commissions in the implementation of the Agenda 2030, youth and prevention of violent extremism, protection of our common heritage in the event of armed conflict, and preparation of UNESCO draft programme and budget for 2018-2021. 

Bilateral meetings were held with the representatives of the National Commissions for UNESCO of Kazakhstan, Georgia, Afghanistan and others in the framework of this event.
