“Nar Bayrami, traditional pomegranate festivity and culture” is inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity

 

On December 16, 2020, the nomination document "Nar Bayrami, traditional pomegranate festivity and culture" presented by Azerbaijan was accepted for inclusion in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Making such an important decision for our country was possible with the support of the First Vice-President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Mehriban Aliyeva and with the joint activity of the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Permanent Delegation of the Republic of Azerbaijan to UNESCO and the National Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan for UNESCO.
Speaking on behalf of the Azerbaijani delegation at the meeting, the representative of the Ministry of Culture Vasif Eyvazzadeh thanked UNESCO and the organization's evaluation body for the decision. He stressed that the pomegranate culture and traditions have a special place in the cultural life, mythology, ancient traditions, cuisine and agriculture of the Azerbaijani people.

It was noted in the speech of gratitude that the inclusion of this nomination file in the relevant list made a significant contribution to the protection of "The Pomegranate Culture" and its transmission to the future generations.
The 15th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage takes place online from 14 to 19 December 2020
