Paris hosts event to celebrate 100th anniversary of Great Leader Heydar Aliyev and 40th anniversary of Azerbaijan-UNESCO partnership

An event marking the 40th anniversary of the Azerbaijan-UNESCO partnership and the 100th anniversary of National Leader Heydar Aliyev has been held at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, France.

Organized by the Permanent Delegation of Azerbaijan to UNESCO, with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the National Commission of Azerbaijan for UNESCO, the event started with a conference entitled "Azerbaijan-UNESCO: 40 years of partnership".

Addressing the event, Permanent Delegate of Azerbaijan to UNESCO, Ambassador Elman Abdullayev highlighted relations between the UNESCO and Azerbaijan, as well as hailed the role of National Leader Heydar Aliyev in building these ties.

The speakers also included Ambassador Hasan Hasanov, the Former Prime Minister, Former Foreign Minister and the first chairman of the National Commission for UNESCO, Kōichirō Matsuura, the UNESCO's Director-General in 1999-2009, as well as Tamara Rastovac Siamashvili, the Chairperson of the Executive Board of UNESCO, Genc Seiti, the Director of the Division of Member States and Partners, and Vafa Mustafayev, the former head of the Asian Department of the organization.

The speakers touched upon the fruitful relations between Azerbaijan and UNESCO, highlighting the importance of dozens of projects implemented by Azerbaijan in the fields of culture and heritage, protection of biodiversity, education, sports, and intercultural dialogue.

The event also featured a video presentation and a photo exhibition reflecting history of the Azerbaijan-UNESCO cooperation.

The event was rounded off with a concert program.

The event participants also enjoyed national dishes of Azerbaijan.
