Our country was successfully represented at the international event held in Turkmenistan

On May 16, the 10th meeting of the National Commissions for UNESCO of the member countries of TURKSOY was held in the capital city of Turkmenistan, Ashgabat.

According to information provided to AZERTAC by our embassy in Turkmenistan, the purpose of the event is to strengthen cooperation among Turkic states in the fields of culture, documentary heritage, science, and education, and to discuss the implementation of joint projects.

The event was attended by representatives from TURKSOY, TURKPA, the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation, and the International Turkic Academy, as well as representatives from the National Commissions for UNESCO of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Hungary, and Mongolia.

At the meeting, the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Turkmenistan, Qismat Gozalov, along with representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, and the State Tourism Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan, delivered presentations on relevant areas.

During the event, Azerbaijan handed over the presidency of the National Commissions for UNESCO of the member countries of TÜRKSOY from Azerbaijan to Turkmenistan. The 9th meeting of the National Commissions for UNESCO of the member countries of TURKSOY was held in 2023 in the cities of Baku and Shusha.

During the event, Seymur Fataliyev, Secretary General of the National Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan for UNESCO and the Ambassador-at-Large, delivered a speech and symbolically presented a gift representing the transfer of presidency to Turkmenistan - the Azerbaijani national symbol of victory, "Xarıbulbul," to his Turkmen counterpart, Chinar Rustamov. Fataliyev spoke about the activities and achievements carried out by Azerbaijan during its presidency of the National Commissions, recalling President Ilham Aliyev's words, "Our family is the Turkic world," and emphasized the excellent opportunities for cooperation among Turkic states in cultural heritage, education, science, and other fields within the framework of UNESCO. He also voiced the proposals of the National Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan for UNESCO regarding joint cooperation.

During his address at the event, Rashid Meredov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Chairman of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO, spoke about the importance his country attaches to strengthening cooperation with TURKSOY and UNESCO. He also discussed the planned events to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the great Turkmen poet and philosopher, Magtymguly Pyragy, both within the framework of UNESCO and at the national level.

The event continued with sessions organized on cultural heritage, intangible cultural heritage, education, and science. Experts representing our country delivered presentations, and discussions were held on various aspects of cooperation. It was proposed that the next 11th meeting be held in the cities of Astana and Aktau in Kazakhstan.

At the end, the heads of the national commissions were honored with medals and plaques from the Secretary-General of TURKSOY, Sultan Raev, in recognition of their contributions to the culture and art of the Turkic world.

In addition to the mentioned meeting, the participants of the event were also invited to attend the International Forum and other cultural events dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the prominent poet and philosopher Magtymguly Pyragy, which will take place in the city of Anev, designated as the cultural capital of the Turkic world for the year 2024, in Ashgabat on May 17-18.
