Azerbaijan will host the 43rd session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in 2019

42nd session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee is taking place in Manama, Bahrain on 24 June - 4 July.

A delegation consisting of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Ministries of Culture led by the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan Abulfas Garayev is attending the meeting.

UNESCO World Heritage Convention has been discussed within the framework of the meeting, as well as nominations of different countries’ cultural heritage inscribed on the World Heritage List.

Discussions regarding the appointment of new Committee Chairman and the country that would host the 43rd session for the next year have started at the end of the Committee meeting.

According to the final decision, Minister of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan Abulfas Garayev was elected as a Chairman of the Committee. Therefore, Azerbaijan will host the 43rd session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in 2019. The event is expected to involve more than 2,000 delegates from more than 180 countries around the world.

The World Heritage Committee's session is one of the most prestigious events contributing to the world cultural heritage. The World Heritage Committee makes decisions on tangible heritage patterns and the most valuable monuments, which reflect the identity and historical memory of the people of the world. By hosting this event and at the same time chairing the Committee, Republic of Azerbaijan will put its mark on the cultural history of the world’s nations.

The adoption of such an important decision for our country is a result of a successful foreign policy pursued by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev, support and care of the First Vice President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Mehriban Aliyeva and joint activities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, which our country's partnership with UNESCO is developing at a high level.
